Hey everyone, my name is Conner Harkins and I am currently a sophomore in the construction management program. I've never written a blog before; however, I tend to read a lot of Barstool Sports blog's and understand the idea of blogging as an unconventional and fun way to convey information or even just explain one's thoughts. As of now I’m not completely sure of the direction in which I plan to take my blog or what many of my topics will be about. However, I intend to share my thoughts on school, life, or sports, all relating to whatever prompts or topics are prevalent within the course.
As for my initial post I guess I
should further introduce myself. I am 19 years old and from Bridgewater
Massachusetts. My hobbies include hockey, construction, carpentry, and hanging
out with friends. O
ther than that, there isn’t a whole lot else about me (Anythingadditional about my personality can be found in the attached Avatar assignment).
I enjoy school and am very interested in the construction industry. Although I’m
not completely sure what facet of construction I intend on doing in the future
I hope to get a job where I can manage work on large jobsites. Preferably a superintendent.
I guess one interesting thing about me in relation to school is that I am also an incoming transfer student. Last year I attended Drexel University in Philadelphia as a freshman also in their Construction Management program. I enjoyed the school and played ice hockey there, however, the rather expensive tuition paired with the strain of a long hockey season and even a little bit of homesickness led me back to Wentworth. It was a tough decision at the time, yet I think deep down I had known from the start that I really wanted to go to Wentworth instead.
As for my expectations in this class I am a bit
unsure. I finished up to English 3 last year at Drexel, but Wentworth unfortunately
wouldn’t accept all my credits and put me in this class. Not ideal, however, I
guess I don’t mind another semester of English, and the extra help with writing
can’t hurt. I guess I just expect a typical English class with various assignments,
discussions, and papers. Although I’m not necessarily in love with writing, I
do look forward to a good semester in English 2200!

Hi, Connor! I enjoyed looking at your avatar snap. I recently saw "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and loved it. I was a bit surprised because I'm not much of a Tarantino fan (the gore is usually a bit much for me!), but this one was very fun. Can't go wrong with the Brad/Leo dynamic duo! The album cover you shared as part of your abstract art section was cool, too. I hope you'll explore that interest further this semester!
ReplyDeleteHey Connor, I really enjoyed your whole avatar snap and the additional background information about yourself in the post. It's a great thing that you showcased the faces artwork because it definitely is a great work of abstract art. A lot of his artwork in his music is made by his older brother I'm pretty sure, so it's all kind of cohesive. Music wise, faces is a classic so i'm glad that I saw that displayed in all it's glory
ReplyDeleteFor sure, definitely one of the best Mac albums out there. Your right about his brother doing a lot of his artwork, I found that out recently and thought it was really interesting.
DeleteHello Conner,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post. It was just conversational enough to be engaging while still being informational. I tend to have difficulty with autobiographical writing, so I am impressed with how naturally this reads. I'm sorry to hear that you weren't able to finish your education at Drexel University, but you seem to have taken the whole affair in stride. I hope you find Wentworth to your liking despite the sudden transition.
Hey Conner,
ReplyDeleteNice post, I can relate to you because I transferred to Wentworth last year and I am construction management as well. Did you have to retake any CM courses at WIT that you took at Drexel? Anyways, I also play hockey but its semi-competitive and not at Wentworth. It's more of a beer league type of vibe. What position do you play? I play defense. Also, Mac Miller is up there with the top artists I listen to and Mac will definitely be missed.
Hey Conner,
ReplyDeleteI thought your point on abstract art was cool, I find it one of the more interesting forms of art. Although "vibe" might not be the most professional term, I think its a pretty dead-on description of how abstract art is viewed. I also put movies on my Avatar snap, and I agree that Tarantino is an excellent director. One of my all time favorites is "Inglourious Basterds". I'd be curious as to what other movies or directors you enjoy.
