Process and Progress #1

So, the past few weeks I've been trying to develop a game plan for what I want to include in my website and how I will do it. I've done research on a lot of his pieces and different stages in life, along with having a relatively large prior knowledge on him, so as a result I believe that I can piece together many varying pieces of text on him to cover his life story and display his art. This week I decided that the simplest way to begin filling my website with information about Mac Miller would be to write an introduction pie...

Post-Modernism Roots in Today's Architecture

I think one thing that really makes many architects style's standout is the use of unique new ideas, schemes, colors, and designs. In the mid 20th century with the rise of post modernism, architects and designers began to create buildings that really stood out. They would use new and sometimes unnecessary techniques to create a visually questionable yet pleasing structure to usher in the era of postmodernism. These buildings were a staple in expediting a new more modern take on architectural design and changed the views that many had towards architecture as an art. Yet as the e...

What is Post-Modernism?

Image
Image:  Sunrise by Roy Lichtenstein, Source: Wikiart.org          Postmodernism was a reaction to the earlier modernism era of art in which artists built upon the ideals of modernism and used new ways of expression to bring out ideas of scepticism, artistic freedom, and societal critiques. Beginning around the 1960's, postmodernism was a newer genre that knew few bounds and aimed more towards a visual pleasing goal by using abstract and bright visuals to express ideas of the newer more modern culture.  Link to Infographic: https://venngage.net/ps/8R3bug4x3QE/postmodernism-by-conner-harkins

New Project Website

Image
Image: A screenshot of my project website main page, Source: Harkins Archives          This week in relation to my class project I began to set up my website. I decided to use wix.com because I have used it in the past to create a project portfolio in an engineering class. I found it to be quite simple to edit templates and found one that provided a quality portfolio style that would allow me to easily display my work and writings. After that I worked on adding my previous works such as my "This I Believe", enlightenment, romanticism, and modernism writings. From here I plan on beginning to navigate the site a bit more and figuring out what aspects will fit best where.  Link to Website:  https://connerharkins31.wixsite.com/mysite

Modernism: A Critical Analysis

Image
Image: Salvador Dali's Modernism Work Portrayed by his painting Metamorphosis of Narcissus , Source Tate.org               Modernism Art was a new and unconventional artistic expression era in the mid 19th century to the mid 20th century. Artists transitioned from prior eras and trends to create a new style that more accurately represented the culture, experiences, and feelings of the new modern and industrialized world. Their goal was to create art that "better reflected the realities and hopes of modern societies" (Tate.org). Many of the visual art depicted a twist or unconventional aspect that was unique to the viewers of the time. From using shapes, to creating pieces in an abstract manner, the modernism period shaped many traits of art today.                 I provided the painting Metamorphosis of Narcissus by the influential Salvador Dali because it reminded me of the many moder...

Modernism Within the Arts, A Unique Turn

Image
Image: A Modernism Era painting, Source: Britannica.com           Modernism was a new form of art that became popular in the mid 19th century, as artists wanted to create a new and more modern way to express themselves through the fine arts. The era lasted up until the end of the first world war and brought a new and unique take towards literature and visual arts that was drastically different from the romantic art of the past.
