Postmodernism was a reaction to the earlier modernism era of art in which artists built upon the ideals of modernism and used new ways of expression to bring out ideas of scepticism, artistic freedom, and societal critiques. Beginning around the 1960's, postmodernism was a newer genre that knew few bounds and aimed more towards a visual pleasing goal by using abstract and bright visuals to express ideas of the newer more modern culture.
