This I Believe Revised

I believe that nearly anything in this world can be considered art. Art is formally defined as the expression of creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty. However, this definition somewhat excludes certain things that some may not consider art. Yet, art is all around. In my opinion art is everything and everywhere.

          Some people may see a desk or a piece of furniture, a building or a house for just what they are. But who is to say that they aren’t all pieces of art?  

          Nowadays, the definition of art is broadening, long ago are the days where just paintings and sculptures were considered the only artistic mediums. In today’s society music, writing, designing, and building can all be considered art.

          Art is something that someone puts creativity into with the goal of creating a pleasing visual or reaction. As with nearly everything that is made or quite frankly exists, there is almost always an effort put forth by its creator to form the product in its best light. In simpler terms, anything that someone puts effort into creating or even doing for that matter is art.

          As a construction management major, and as someone that has worked construction in the past, there is nothing like seeing a final product. When you put months into building a house, seeing the foundation, to the framing, to the final nail, your able to see something that so many people put effort into turn into a visually pleasing final product. This isn’t to say that everyone has to believe that construction or building is art, but it goes to show that anything that people put effort into creating can be seen as an art form depending on how that individual views the subject. My definition of art may be drastically different than yours, but in my opinion just about anything can be considered art and there shouldn’t be limitations or defined rules.

          I believe that art serves the purpose of evoking emotion. A sign or ad can make you happy or sometimes sad. A painting can make you question and think while bringing forth emotion. An author’s words can make you feel certain types of ways. A building can be visually pleasing thanks to the countless hours of design put into it. It all evokes feelings. It all can hold beauty. It is all art.
